What a trip! There is so much to say and share about our recent 1 1/2 weeks exploring South Africa, but let's be honest...the most important sharing is all about the food. We spent six glorious, sunshine filled days wandering around Cape Town, and along the way discovered delicious bites, eye-opening coffee, and scrumptious snacks to fuel our packed days. If you or anyone you know is planning a stay in the Mother City soon, I highly recommend checking out a few of these places. Special thanks to The Inside Guide, a local blog dedicated to the best of Cape Town, for pointing us in the right direction.
Charleston, SC has been a popular destination for a few years now. The water front views, delicious food, great shopping, beautiful scenery, and classic southern charm make it a perfect pick for a long weekend almost any time of year. David and I visited for a 3-day escape from the cold back in March (yes, I know this post is almost 5 months late). After having to delay our trip two weeks due to canceled flights, we were thrilled to finally arrive to much needed sunshine and exploration.
In my last post, I detailed the digestive ups and downs I've experienced over the last few months, and the regimen I've been following to try to solve these issues. It hasn't been easy, and to say that I've been living a perfectly low-FODMAP diet would be a lie. Although, I would say it's been pretty close to perfect on most days. However, I'm still not symptom free, and feeling frustrated. My suspicion is the four nutritional supplements I was taking twice a day were causing some counterproductive side effects, and the low-FODMAP protocol has real promise of helping. So I took a few days to re-evaluate, and decided to stop the supplements (I was almost done anyways), and give the FODMAP diet one more real try.
It's that time of year where we all sit back, and reflect on the good, and not so good of the previous 12 months. While taking time for serious introspection is helpful, I want to focus on something much more important. Food. But not just any food. I want to reflect on the dishes that truly stand out from a year of eating out, and traveling. I indulged in some amazing food this year, like the smoked turkey sausage from the Greenmarket Farmers Market, and velvety ice cream from Trickling Springs Creamery. It's impossible to highlight every bite I took, but when I think back on 2017, here are the dishes, snacks, plates, and desserts that immediately jump to the top of my mind.
Yet another great travel adventure in the books! David and I recently returned from our 2017 South American extravaganza where we explored Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay. I'll be putting together a longer post outlining our favorite activities, recommendations, and lessons learned, but I first want to share some of the delicious food that kept us energized (pictured above: provoleta).
